Christal Whelan

Christal Whelan - anthropologist, writer, filmmaker - currently lives in Mongolia where she is researching nomadic culture, religious revival, and language education there.

Some info about the photo above: Whelan writes, "It was taken in February 2009 on the balcony of my friend Tenzin's house in Danba County, Ganze Tibet Autonomous Region in Sichuan Province, China. Danba is famous for its exquisite architecture (every house looks like a castle) and stone watchtowers, now only about 343 left. Many were damaged in last year's earthquake in that region."
