The Final Letter: Reed Peggram’s Harrowing Quest to Belong, a true account of one man’s fight for acceptance, details how fascism, racism, homophobia and antisemitism impact the life of Reed Peggram, a gay Black Harvard educated Bostonian who travels to Paris in pursuit of his PhD in 1938. When WWII erupts the following year, the docudrama follows Reed and his decision to remain in Europe with his lover and attempts to outrun the Nazis, before their capture and imprisonment in an Italian concentration camp. The first film about a Black American imprisoned in a concentration camp, The Final Letter is about one man’s unique journey, poignantly told by the filmmaker’s niece through letters that he wrote to his grandmother more than 80 years ago.
