Aiwan Obinyan is a Nigerian-British, Filmmaker, Producer and Composer. Her debut independent documentary feature film, Wax Print was released in 2018. The 97-minute documentary traces the global history of Wax Print fabric which for better or worse has become an iconic symbol of the African diaspora.
Her second film, Kenyan, Christian, Queer (2020), is an exploration of the Cosmopolitan Affirming Church, the first LGBTQ church in Nairobi, Kenya. Through the eyes of the members the film seeks to shed light on what it means to African, Christian and Queer.
She works across the film, podcasting and music industries crafting stories that challenge the status quo, with clients including gal-dem, BBC, VICE, GAY TIMES, Amazon, Young Vic Theatre, The UN and more. In 2013 she founded AiAi Studios, a film and music production house, specializing in audio for all media.
