  • Jie Li is an assistant professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University, with research and teaching interests in modern Chinese literary and cultural studies as well as East Asian cinema. Her documentary made in Cameroon, The Al-Hadji and His Wives (2006), was broadcast on television and screened in film festivals worldwide. Her forthcoming book, Shanghai Homes: Palimpsests of Private Life (Columbia University Press 2014) excavates a century of memories embedded in two alleyway neighborhoods destined for demolition. She is also the co-editor of Red Legacies in China: Cultural Afterlives of the Communist Revolution(Harvard Asia Center Publications, forthcoming).
