Tara Wray was born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas and now lives in New York City. Her first film, a personal documentary titled Manhattan, Kansas, premiered at the 2006 SXSW Film Festival, where it was named runner-up for the Audience Award. It went on to play at festivals across the country, and at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theatre as part of the Independents Night Film Series, and most recently was invited to screen in ten cities across the Southern US as part of the 35th season of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. Manhattan, Kansas received funding from the Jerome Foundation and the Anthony Radziwill Documentary Fund and is a sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts. Tara is currently working on a new documentary called Cartoon College, about a school for cartoonists in Vermont.
